The project's capital cost is estimated at approximately $4.3 billion, with the total cost—including financing—reaching around $5.8 billion. Construction and excavation works are scheduled to begin this coming summer.
A Global Milestone
The Jordanian National Water Carrier is the first project of its kind globally, integrating several strategic pillars:
Desalination: Treating 300 million cubic meters (mcm) of seawater annually.
Complex Engineering: Pumping water to elevations of 1,100 meters above sea level through a 450-km pipeline.
Eco-friendly Technology: Utilizing renewable energy and the latest green technologies.
Strategic Impact by 2030
Expected to begin pumping in 2030, the project will provide nearly 40% of the Kingdom's drinking water needs. The 300 mcm provided annually is nearly equivalent to the total capacity of all dams in Jordan and triple the output of the Disi project.
Key Benefits:
Increased Supply: Boosts water supply by 40% compared to current levels.
Higher Per Capita Share: Increases the annual individual share from 60 to 110 cubic meters.
Improved Service: Expands water supply frequency from one day to three days per week across all governorates.
