Ebi Andrew, Deputy Chairman of the local administration in the Kwande area, said that a gunman carried out an attack on the Mbaikor market within the jurisdiction of Benue State, resulting in fatalities and several injuries.

Andrew stated that the death toll from the attack reached 13, in addition to a large number of wounded, without specifying an exact figure. He noted that the injured were transferred to hospitals to receive treatment.

He added that the relevant authorities moved immediately to the area following the attack to restore order and prevent similar assaults against residents.

The attack comes a day after the death toll rose to 170 from attacks carried out by armed gangs in the Wuro and Nuku areas of Kwara State in western Nigeria.

Nigeria has long been plagued by attacks by armed gangs, in addition to assaults by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) across various parts of the country.
