“The high level reached by many Asian teams of different age groups is very encouraging and very promising.”  Al-Thani told Jordan News.

Al-Thani said that basketball is the only team sport that has brought international attention to Jordan with the 2010 and 2019 world cup, along with the Asia Cup. He added that “there must be greater interest in spreading the game and ensuring its durability.”

Al-Thani also noted that the relationship between the Jordan Basketball Federation and its Asian counterpart is like that of a father and his children: “The relationship we have with our brothers in Jordan is based on love, and we are here in the federation to serve all,” he said, while praising Jordan for hosting the Women’s Asia Cup after China dropped out of hosting the event due to the pandemic.

He went on to say: “We are confident that Jordan will be able to host any continental tournament and bring it out in such a way as to set an example.”
