Authorities confirmed that commercial activity is increasing as Ramadan approaches, emphasizing that there are no indications of shortages, while regulatory efforts continue to control prices and prevent consumer exploitation during the holy month.

Earlier last month, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply announced a comprehensive plan to ensure market stability during Ramadan, which includes intensifying inspection tours, boosting food stockpiles, and monitoring prices daily.

The ministry stated that the strategic stock of essential commodities is secure and exceeds the required levels. Prices of about 90 essential items are being monitored, with some prices decreasing and most remaining stable.

The plan relies on a clear legal framework derived from the Industry and Trade Law No. 18 of 1998 and the Consumer Protection Law No. 7 of 2017, utilizing a set of regulatory and monitoring tools to ensure market stability and protect the rights of all parties in the trade sectors.

Monitoring

According to the plan, daily inspections will be divided into two periods during the first half of Ramadan and three periods during the second half, including morning, evening, and late-night rounds, especially after mid-Ramadan, to ensure market stability and availability of goods.

Regarding meetings with partners, the ministry indicated that agricultural production of vegetables is good despite seasonal variations during winter due to weather conditions, ensuring sufficient quantities in the markets. Production and prices are expected to improve at the start of Ramadan with the new agricultural season.

Coordination with the poultry producers’ union aims to gradually increase production by up to 30% before Ramadan and during Eid al-Fitr to meet rising demand. Consumer institutions are also boosting strategic stock of essential goods, monitoring global price trends, ensuring smooth supply chains, and tracking inventory daily.

Official figures indicate that demand for poultry rises 30–40% during Ramadan, with normal monthly consumption around 28,000 tons, and the highest expected consumer price set at 1.85 JD.

The Civil Consumer Corporation launched a 43-day discount campaign covering Ramadan and essential goods, with discounts of up to 41%, to enable citizens to purchase their needs at reasonable prices and support market stability.

The corporation also announced full readiness to issue prepaid coupons and shopping cards, redeemable at all its markets across the Kingdom, enhancing its national and social role and providing flexible, organized support tools for interested entities.

Issam Al-Jarrah, the corporation’s general manager, said this service is available to ministries, government institutions, private companies, charitable organizations, and donors, enabling direct support to beneficiaries while preserving their dignity and freedom to choose essential and consumer goods.

He added that these coupons and cards allow holders to shop at all corporation markets, which offer a wide range of goods at competitive prices, enhancing purchasing power and ensuring support reaches eligible recipients efficiently and transparently.

Jordan Trade Sector

Jamal Amro, representative of the food sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that all food items are available in sufficient quantities in local markets, noting that the consumer basket value has dropped by about 8% compared to last Ramadan.

He added that markets show clear abundance of various goods due to multiple import sources and diverse origins, which has increased competition and contributed to lower prices.

Amro explained that legume prices fell significantly due to a good production season. Sugar and rice prices also dropped compared to last year, while vegetable oils were the only exception, rising globally.

In consumer protection, the National Consumer Protection Association launched its Ramadan plan, which includes monitoring prices, receiving consumer complaints, and sending awareness messages to households. The association urged rational consumption and avoiding excessive stockpiling to prevent supply-demand imbalance and price hikes.

The Standards and Metrology Institution confirmed intensified inspection tours during Ramadan to ensure product compliance with standards, accuracy of scales, and product validity, with focus on items in higher demand during the month, as well as monitoring household appliances, clothing, and cosmetics sectors.

The institution confirmed that inspection teams will conduct intensified monitoring during and outside official working hours, covering economic establishments in all governorates and districts to verify compliance with technical rules and standards.
