Abu Khdeija: Curricula and laboratories are continuously updated in line with international accreditations and labor market needs

Dr. Haitham Abdullah Abu Khdeija, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Applied Science Private University, said the success of universities is measured by their ability to produce graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the labor market, in addition to the quality of their academic intake. He noted that the university has adopted a policy in recent years focused on attracting high-achieving and talented students and linking education to competition, innovation and practical application.

In an exclusive interview, Abu Khdeija said the university had worked for around eight years to attract outstanding students through specialized competitions in several fields, including media, translation and other academic disciplines, while offering scholarships to high achievers. He explained that this policy had contributed to raising students’ academic standards and strengthening the competitive environment within the university.

He said international accreditations represent one of the most important criteria for evaluating academic programs, as they reflect the extent to which curricula and educational requirements comply with standards applied by universities worldwide. He stressed that the university had sought to obtain international accreditation for its programs and colleges because of its impact on educational quality, recognition of qualifications and graduates’ employment prospects.

Regarding global university rankings, Abu Khdeija explained that their importance goes beyond a university’s position on a ranking table, extending to strengthening its international presence and expanding its relationships and agreements with universities around the world. He also noted their importance in university recognition in several countries, particularly in the Gulf region.

He said the university had achieved strong positions in several international rankings, including leading Jordanian universities in some rankings and attaining advanced positions in others. He added that the university focuses primarily on the QS, Times and Shanghai rankings because of their global academic standing and their criteria related to academic reputation, research, citations, the educational environment and international outlook.

Abu Khdeija said scientific research is a central pillar of the university’s strategy, noting that three patents had been registered in London and that work was underway on around 30 additional patents, through cooperation between the Faculty of Information Technology and other faculties, as part of efforts to promote applied research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

He explained that academic curricula and laboratories are continuously updated in line with developments in knowledge, accreditation requirements and labor market needs. The university also monitors professional and technological trends in advanced countries to help students acquire employable skills both inside Jordan and abroad.

Speaking about the bachelor’s program in Chinese and English, Abu Khdeija said China’s economic and technological expansion was opening new opportunities for students. He added that the university recognizes the scale of changes taking place in the global economy and the importance of preparing graduates capable of adapting to them.

He noted that university students had achieved strong results in 64 local and international competitions across various faculties, citing their participation in Huawei competitions and their achievement of advanced positions. He considered competitions a practical tool for assessing students’ abilities to apply the knowledge they have acquired.

Abu Khdeija said the impact of university education on the labor market is reflected in the positions held by graduates in judicial and financial institutions, major companies and other sectors. He stressed that the university follows the professional progress of its graduates and takes pride in their achievements.

He revealed that around 65% of Applied Science Private University students have high school averages above 80%, while the university had attracted around 1,200 new students before the unified admission results were announced. More than half of them, he said, are children of Jordanians living abroad, describing this as an indicator of the confidence the university and its graduates enjoy both in Jordan and internationally.

He stressed that the university’s mission extends beyond academic education to building students’ personalities and instilling values, ethics and discipline. Knowledge, skills and professional conduct, he said, together form the foundation graduates need to succeed and remain competitive in the labor market.

Abu Khdeija praised the university’s academic and administrative staff and highlighted the strong presence of women in academic and administrative leadership positions. He noted that several deans are university graduates who continued their academic careers from bachelor’s degrees through doctoral studies before assuming leadership positions at the institution.

He added that the university continues to invest in developing its programs, laboratories, research and campus environment in order to maintain its competitiveness and strengthen the ability of its graduates to enter the labor market with the necessary skills and competence.
