Russia announced on Saturday that it has taken control of three villages in eastern Ukraine, while its forces continue to advance on the front amid intense battles.

Russian forces are advancing slowly but steadily on the ground amid clashes in areas that have seen widespread destruction in eastern Ukraine, with few remaining residents or intact buildings.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russia has seized approximately 0.8% of Ukraine’s territory since the beginning of the year.
The towns of Derylov and Maisk in Donetsk region were captured, according to a statement from the Russian military, while the village of Stepov in the Dnipropetrovsk region was also taken.
Ukraine reported that Russian nighttime shelling killed one person and injured 12 in the Kherson region in the southeast, and also damaged railways in the neighboring Odesa region.
Russia, meanwhile, reported that operations at an oil pumping station in the Chuvash Republic were halted due to a Ukrainian drone attack.
For months, Ukraine has targeted Russian oil refineries in retaliation for Russian shelling of its territory and in an effort to undermine energy revenues that fund the Russian war effort.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war, now approaching its fourth year, have stalled. U.S. President Donald Trump stated this week that Ukraine is capable of regaining all its territory from Russia, which has pledged to continue its advance.
