Kallas: Global Peace Levels Are in Continuous Decline
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, called on members of the Union for the Mediterranean to support efforts to halt what she described as “Russian aggression” in Ukraine, warning that global peace levels are witnessing a continuous decline.اضافة اعلان

In her remarks at the opening of the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean—co-chaired by Jordan and the European Union—she noted that the Mediterranean region is directly affected by this decline in stability. She stressed that all international organizations must work to strengthen peace both within the region and beyond.

Kallas pointed out that the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Nasser Kamel, would address the Union’s role in supporting peace-building efforts, highlighting several sectors that offer opportunities for progress, foremost among them trade.

She explained that 90% of trade flows occur between EU member states, compared with only 9% between the EU and its southern neighbors, and just 1% among the southern neighbors themselves—figures she said underscore the Union for the Mediterranean’s important role in supporting trade flows and promoting economic integration.

Kallas also touched on the transport sector, describing it as a major challenge for the region. She emphasized the need to develop infrastructure to improve transport and mobility, noting the Union for the Mediterranean’s ability to work with funding entities to support this track.

She stressed that the Union for the Mediterranean is built on the idea of “working together, thinking together, and sharing in the search for solutions to advance progress,” affirming that the European Union is capable of playing a central role in supporting this vision.

Kallas added that the rapidly shifting international landscape makes cooperation more essential than ever, saying: “We are stronger when we work together, and that is why we are here today.” She expressed hope that all participants would contribute to advancing joint action.
