France Urges EU to Investigate Shein Over Controversial Products

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told Reuters that the company is clearly violating EU regulations. Speaking on France Info radio, he said: “I believe the European Commission must take action. It cannot wait any longer.”

France has already taken steps to block Shein’s website in the country to review and strengthen oversight of third-party sellers, and the company has globally ceased selling the controversial dolls.

In a letter to Hanna Färkönen, head of the EU’s technology department, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure and Digital Affairs Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher highlighted the serious breaches within France and warned that similar risks may exist across the EU.

The letter urged the Commission to investigate immediately to determine how illegal items were sold through the platform. A Commission spokesperson confirmed receipt of the letter and stated that it would assess the matter and decide on next steps.
