Germany plans to implement a broad package of measures to strengthen its defensive capabilities against drone attacks, cyber intrusions and acts of sabotage attributed to Russia, Bild am Sonntag reported Sunday, following a failed drone attack targeting a German airport last month.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said Russia’s multi-faceted attacks have become part of everyday reality, stressing that Germany expects them to intensify but has the ability to counter them and protect itself.
According to the newspaper, the plan includes expanding mobile police capabilities to counter drones, with rapid-response units deployed in cities to address drone threats and protect airspace over key transportation hubs and government facilities.
Authorities also plan to grant operators of critical infrastructure, including electricity facilities and defense industry companies, legal powers allowing them not only to detect drones but also to take effective measures to counter them.
The proposed measures also include establishing a national cybersecurity protection network known as the “Cyber Dome,” based on a system of digital sensors designed to detect and counter attempted cyberattacks.
The German government also plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence, facial recognition, biometric systems and surveillance cameras, particularly at railway stations, to identify suspects who may be planning acts of sabotage.
Russia, meanwhile, rejects accusations that it has carried out sabotage operations or attacks in Western European countries. Moscow also denied involvement in the drone incident targeting the German airport, warning that it would respond to what the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman described as an “anti-Russian measure.”
