Indonesia: 11 Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Mentawai Islands

Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency announced on Tuesday that 11 people are missing after a boat capsized amid bad weather off the coast of the Mentawai Islands, located in West Sumatra, on Monday.اضافة اعلان

According to Indonesia’s Antara news agency, seven people have been rescued, while 18 were on board the vessel at the time of the accident, including 10 local government officials.

Boats and ferries are a common mode of transportation across Indonesia, an archipelago made up of more than 17,000 islands.

Earlier this month, a ferry sank near Bali Island, resulting in 18 fatalities and 30 survivors out of 65 passengers.
