According to Xinhua News Agency, the heavy rains continued through Wednesday afternoon, impacting around 300,000 residents in the county and forcing the evacuation of some 70,000 people to safer areas.

The torrential rains, triggered by Typhoon “Wutip” — the first typhoon of the year — along with a high-altitude low-pressure system and seasonal monsoon rains, have been battering the region since last Saturday.

Nineteen towns in the county have been affected by floods, which caused extensive damage to dams, roads, and farmlands. Fifteen people have been reported injured, though none are in life-threatening condition.

Authorities in the affected areas have mobilized over 10,000 rescue personnel and more than 500 emergency response units. Huaiji County has raised its flood emergency response level to the highest tier and suspended all educational, work, production, transportation, and commercial activities across the county.
