The Israeli occupation army announced on Tuesday that it had carried out a successful military operation in southern Lebanon, resulting in the killing of two Hezbollah commanders.

According to the army, the strike targeted Mohammad Abbas Shaashou, who was responsible for artillery fire in the Sahmar area, in addition to eliminating Mohammad Hussein Yassin, a senior figure in the party’s artillery unit in the Shaqif area.
The statement noted that “Shaashou was behind multiple rocket attacks toward Kiryat Shmona and the Golan Heights, and had recently worked on rebuilding infrastructure in southern Lebanon and implementing plans that posed threats to Israeli forces.”
It further stated that “Mohammad Hussein Yassin took part in planning and executing operations against the Galilee Panhandle and Kiryat Shmona, contributed to rebuilding the organization’s capabilities, and facilitated the transfer of weapons to areas south of the Litani River.”
The Israeli army stressed that Hezbollah’s activities constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon, emphasizing that its forces will continue to act to eliminate any threat to the security of the state.
In contrast, Lebanese authorities have repeatedly asserted that Israel continues to systematically violate Lebanon’s sovereignty despite the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.
They added that Israeli forces are still stationed at five strategic points in southern Lebanon, including the northern part of the village of Ghajar—something Lebanese authorities consider an ongoing occupation and a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. —(RT)
