A Syrian man was fatally stabbed in Konya, southern Turkey, on Sunday following a dispute between two groups over a provocative remark.
According to the Turkish news outlet Habertürk, a group of youths—likely Turkish—asked a group of Syrians, “Why are you sitting here?” This exchange escalated into a verbal argument and then a physical fight. During the altercation, one of the youths, identified as “M.K.,” drew a knife and stabbed the Syrian man, Mahmoud Al-Mohammad, in the chest. Despite attempts by emergency responders, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, Mahmoud’s relatives and friends gathered outside the hospital in deep grief, while Turkish authorities increased security measures at the scene to prevent further escalation or violence.
Police later apprehended the suspect, who had fled the scene shortly after the attack, using surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts. Since the suspect is a minor, he was referred to the juvenile police department for questioning. The public prosecutor’s office is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Turkey has witnessed several deaths of Syrians under various circumstances in recent months, drawing attention from local media. In October, emergency teams in Bursa found a young Syrian man in his twenties dead inside his apartment in the “Yeniğe” neighborhood.
