According to the European "Euronews" channel, the UKMTO stated that the tanker reported a "large explosion on its port side," causing the vessel to begin taking on water. The incident occurred 56 kilometers southeast of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port in Kuwait.

In its notice, the UKMTO clarified that "there is oil in the water leaking from one of the cargo tanks, which may leave an environmental impact." It further noted that while water had entered the ship, there were no reports of fires, and the crew is safe.

For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior stated in a subsequent press release that the incident took place outside Kuwaiti territorial waters, at a distance of at least 60 kilometers from Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.
