Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun affirmed Friday his full determination to liberate every inch of Lebanese territory, noting that the path to independence begins with the presence of the state, not its absence.

Speaking on the occasion of the 82nd Independence Day, Aoun said: “We made mistakes in managing our independence, and we must not forget that external factors exploded around us and pushed us, fifty years ago, into complex wars from which we emerged through the Taif Agreement.”
The president stressed that Lebanon’s choice is to build a strong state, not a statelet, confirming that the army is ready to take control of all points in the south as soon as Israeli violations stop and Israel withdraws from Lebanese territory.
He also affirmed Lebanon’s readiness to negotiate any agreement that would bring an end to Israeli attacks.
