Israel informed the United States that it will not allow the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to resume operations in the Gaza Strip, despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) calling on Israel to cooperate with the UN agency, according to Israel’s public broadcaster on Thursday.

An Israeli official told the broadcaster that “UNRWA will never set foot in Gaza again,” adding that all UN agencies operating in the Strip had failed to fulfill their missions.
On Wednesday, the ICJ issued an advisory opinion stating that Israel is legally obligated to allow UNRWA to deliver humanitarian aid in Gaza, noting that Israel had not provided sufficient evidence to prove that the agency had been infiltrated by Hamas or that it had lost its neutrality.
While the court’s ruling is not legally binding, it adds further international pressure on Israel amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
