Abbas reiterated his appreciation for President Trump’s significant efforts to end the war in Gaza and move toward lasting peace, also extending thanks to Arab and Islamic countries contributing to these efforts—Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan.
He affirmed the State of Palestine’s readiness to engage constructively with the U.S. President from this moment, along with all relevant partners, the co-chairs of the International Peace Conference in New York, the chairs of the working groups, the Arab member of the UN Security Council Algeria, as well as all Security Council and General Assembly members, in pursuit of lasting and just peace in line with international legitimacy.
Abbas stressed: “What matters to us now is the immediate commitment to a full ceasefire, the release of all hostages and prisoners, the urgent entry of humanitarian aid through UN agencies, ensuring no displacement or annexation, and the start of reconstruction.”
He emphasized that sovereignty over the Gaza Strip belongs to the State of Palestine, noting that the linkage between the West Bank and Gaza must be established through Palestinian governmental laws and institutions, with a unified Palestinian administrative committee and security forces, under a single legal framework, supported by Arab and international partners.
Abbas added: “We will continue working with mediators and relevant partners to ensure the success of these efforts, leading to a lasting peace that ends the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
He reminded the international community of its responsibility to compel Israel to cease all unilateral measures that violate international law, foremost among them settlement activity, settler violence, assaults on holy sites, and the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
Abbas reaffirmed that an independent, sovereign Palestinian state is the natural partner for stability in the region, alongside Israel. —(WAFA)
