TEHRAN — Iranian authorities said on Friday that U.S. strikes hit a headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy in Gilan province in northern Iran, according to state media.
Ali Bagheri, deputy governor of Gilan, said, “The headquarters of the IRGC Navy in the Zibakenar area was targeted this morning by bombs dropped by the American enemy, causing damage to part of the equipment at the facility,” according to the official IRNA news agency.
The U.S. military launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets on Thursday evening, as Tehran vowed to continue its attacks as long as U.S. operations persist, raising concerns over a wider regional confrontation and threats to shipping in the Gulf and the Red Sea.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had “begun a new round of strikes against Iranian military targets,” describing them as the “13th consecutive night of strikes aimed at holding Iran accountable and reducing threats to commercial shipping.”
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that air defenses were activated in Tehran to counter what they described as a “hostile threat,” while explosions were heard in several areas, including Ahvaz in Khuzestan province, Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Konarak, Chabahar, and Sirik near the Strait of Hormuz.
The Tasnim News Agency also reported that a U.S. missile strike targeted Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
