This came in a joint statement following their meeting in Cairo today, Sunday, to conduct an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international developments. The ministers reaffirmed the importance of continued consultation and coordination among the four nations to support peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Middle East and the wider region.
The ministers particularly welcomed the signing of the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding" between the United States of America and Iran. They viewed this important development as a constructive step toward de-escalation and ending a conflict that posed significant risks to regional security and stability, as well as heavily impacting energy markets, international maritime navigation routes, global supply chains, and international trade.
Furthermore, the ministers commended the pivotal efforts made by Pakistan in reaching this historic outcome, alongside the support provided by the State of Qatar to facilitate the success of the negotiations regarding the memorandum of understanding. The ministers praised the ongoing, close coordination with Pakistan on this critical issue.
Building upon this positive momentum, the statement specifically emphasized the importance of a swift and successful conclusion to the subsequent phase of negotiations, which aims to reach a permanent, verifiable, and mutually acceptable solution to outstanding issues.
The ministers stressed that these efforts must take into account the concerns of the countries in the region, particularly regarding the security and stability of the Arab Gulf states as well as the Levant, thereby contributing to the promotion of collective security and the consolidation of long-term regional stability.
The Palestinian Cause
Reaffirming the centrality of the Palestinian cause in achieving peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, the ministers stressed that it remains at the heart of efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region, forming an essential pillar for a stable and secure regional order. In this regard, special focus was placed on the humanitarian and political situation in the occupied Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The ministers renewed their unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They reemphasized this as an indispensable foundation for achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
