“X” Unifies Its Messaging System, Merging Direct Messages with “XChat” into a Single Tab
The platform “” has begun rolling out one of its largest in-app communication updates by merging Direct Messages with the “XChat” chat feature into a single tab that brings together all conversations. This move comes as part of a broader reorganization and development of the messaging system to deliver a smoother, more private user experience, in line with the platform’s direction toward expanding communication services.اضافة اعلان

The new system allows users to access all their conversations through a unified interface instead of the previously separate sections for messages and chats. The platform explains that the change goes beyond a visual merge, involving a rebuild of the underlying messaging infrastructure within “X” to support future communication services such as voice and video calls, as well as advanced encryption technologies.

The enhanced “XChat” includes expanded features that raise the level of privacy and control within conversations. These include notifications when screenshots are taken, the ability to edit names within chats, enabling vanish mode that automatically deletes messages after a set period, and the option to fully delete messages for both parties. The system also supports sending various file types, including PDF documents, images, and videos, along with the ability to read messages without displaying a “read” indicator, search within conversations, and mark messages as unread even after opening them.

This update reflects “X’s” move toward offering a fully integrated messaging service within the app, enabling private and group conversations, file sharing, and communication with higher levels of security—without relying on phone numbers or external applications. The unified system is being rolled out gradually to users worldwide, and availability may vary between accounts depending on update status.

Given the platform’s growing use in Saudi Arabia and the Arab region, the unified tab is expected to speed up conversation management and organization, particularly for users who rely on “X” for news coverage, professional communication, and customer service, in addition to everyday use.

The update is part of a broader series of steps aimed at strengthening “X’s” role as a comprehensive communication platform that combines public posting with private communication channels in a single environment, enhancing its competitiveness against popular messaging applications.
