New data suggests that "Muse," Meta's latest AI app, could turn into a major new success for the company.

According to recent estimates from app market data firm "Apptopia," Meta's Muse mobile app achieved a higher number of downloads during its first 12 days after launch compared to what "ChatGPT" achieved during its first 12 days after its mobile app launched.

This comparison is limited to the US and Canadian markets.

The company also found that Muse achieved a higher number of daily active users compared to what ChatGPT had at the same stage after its launch.
Until now, a direct comparison between the two apps had been difficult, due to differences in their launch strategies.

When ChatGPT arrived on mobile phones, it launched globally, but was only available on the iPhone operating system.

Muse, meanwhile, is available on both Apple's and Google's app stores, but is currently limited to the United States and Canada.

To make the comparison more accurate, Apptopia examined data for iPhone users only in the United States and Canada during the first 12 days after each app's launch.

According to this data, Muse recorded around 1.8 million downloads, compared to 1.3 million downloads for ChatGPT during the comparable period after its launch.

The company also said Muse's total installs reached 2.8 million during its first 12 days after launch.

The app's growth hasn't slowed so far, as it moved from second place in Apple's US App Store overall rankings immediately after launch to first place. With that, Muse surpassed ChatGPT in the store's rankings.

App analytics firm "App Figures" also said Muse had already surpassed the one-million-download mark.

Apptopia's data also indicates that Muse's number of daily active users in the United States has become higher than the number ChatGPT recorded at the same stage after its launch.

When comparing daily active users of mobile apps in the United States alone, Muse recorded around 642,000 daily users, compared to 231,000 users for ChatGPT during the comparable period after its launch.

Because Muse is available on both iPhone and Android, while ChatGPT initially launched on iPhone only, Apptopia narrowed the comparison to iPhone users alone.

Even in this comparison, Muse remained ahead, recording around 359,000 daily active users on iPhone, a figure exceeding what ChatGPT achieved during the same period after its launch.

Still, Apptopia can only provide external estimates of app downloads and active users, as it doesn't have direct access to Meta's internal data.

But even if these figures are only approximate, they suggest that Muse may have a genuine chance of becoming one of Meta's most prominent new apps.

Meta has previously mastered the strategy of cross-promotion between its apps when it launched "Threads," whose user count surpassed 500 million, benefiting from intensive marketing campaigns and integrations with Meta's largest apps, including Instagram and Facebook.

Muse is likely to receive similar support, especially since the AI app can connect with both Facebook and Instagram.

It also works within WhatsApp, which could give it an additional boost in reach.
Although Apptopia cannot directly observe Meta's cross-promotion efforts or advertising campaigns, it noted that more than 95 percent of Muse users also use Facebook, while 63 percent of them use Instagram.

Meta has not yet published official figures related to Muse's adoption rates in its early days, despite a request for comment from the company.
