WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is developing a new feature for Android users that allows messages to vanish automatically once they have been read.
This feature aims to make it easier for users to maintain the privacy of their conversations and gain more control over how long their messages remain visible.

According to WABetaInfo, a site specializing in WhatsApp updates, the upcoming feature will introduce a new timer option specifically for self-disappearing messages, triggered immediately after they are read. This feature will be optional.
Current vs. Future Capabilities
Currently, users can set messages to disappear based on three fixed durations: 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. However, the new update addresses the need for stricter privacy:
The "After Reading" Option: New messages will disappear 15 minutes after being sent from the sender's side, and 15 minutes after being read by the recipient.
Safety Net: If a message is never opened, it will automatically expire after 24 hours to ensure it doesn't linger indefinitely.
Flexibility: Users can apply this setting to specific individual chats or as a global default for all conversations.
Why it Matters: Potential Use Cases
The report highlights several scenarios where this "strict" privacy is essential:
Work Updates: Sending sensitive professional information that should expire within an hour.
Personal Privacy: Brief personal notes intended for a single viewing.
Security: Sharing One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or verification codes that must expire quickly for security reasons.
Availability
The "Disappear After Reading" feature is currently under development and is slated for release in a future update for Android users.
