Shabab Al-Hussein boasts an impressive record, having won the Premier League title 22 times, the Jordan Cup 10 times and the Super Cup seven times through last year, cementing its position at the forefront of Jordanian volleyball.
Saleh Al-Sayed Ahmad, the club’s sports activities director and board member, said the team is intensifying its preparations under head coach Walid Al-Asoud.
Players continue to train at the club’s hall following the return of those who represented the national team at the Arab Championship. He said the team aims to retain all its titles, beginning with the Super Cup, in which it will face fellow club Aira, the runner-up in various competitions, on October 25. The Jordan Cup will follow a few days later, ahead of the Premier League’s start next month.
Speaking to Al-Ghad, Al-Sayed Ahmad said Shabab Al-Hussein respects Aira’s ambitions. He noted that Aira has a group of distinguished local players and a legitimate desire to compete for the Super Cup, adding that his team is preparing for the match with seriousness and focus.
He added that the team will be without setter Yaser Othman, who has returned to his club in Kosovo to continue his professional career after representing Jordan at the Arab Championship, which recently concluded in Amman. However, he expressed confidence in promising replacement Moataz Al-Naqeeb and the rest of the squad to shoulder the responsibility and defend the club’s titles.
Regarding preparations and new additions for the coming season, Al-Sayed Ahmad said the club has strengthened its squad by signing experienced middle blocker Abdulrahman Ghanem, who has previously represented the national team, Shabab Al-Hussein and several local clubs. The club has also renewed the contract of national team player Mahmoud Abdulaziz and promoted several young talents to the first team.
The sports activities director stressed that competing in the league without foreign players reflects the club’s confidence in its local talent, which makes up the vast majority of the national teams’ squads. He said Shabab Al-Hussein takes pride in its self-reliant approach and its role in developing players for local clubs under the slogan, “Made at Shabab Al-Hussein Club.”
Al-Sayed Ahmad also praised the work of the club’s youth coaching staff, led by head coach Samir Shbaro, whom he described as a talent discoverer. He commended Shbaro’s extensive experience and role in developing generations of players who have helped the club dominate youth competitions and supplied promising talents to Jordan’s national teams across different age groups.
Meanwhile, team star Mahmoud Al-Naqeeb said Shabab Al-Hussein is ready to defend all its titles this season, affirming the squad’s physical, technical and mental readiness. He noted that most players had only recently returned from representing the national team in the Arab Championship.
Al-Naqeeb added that team spirit, cohesion and strong relationships among players, alongside the support and attention of the club’s board and sports administration and the backing of its fans, bring the team closer to achieving its competitive goals in the new season. He also expressed respect for all rival teams and their ambitions to win the season’s titles.
