A recent Brazilian study has highlighted the benefits of olive oil in preventing obesity and promoting brain health.
According to the journal Nutritional Neuroscience, Brazilian scientists found through experiments on obese mice that adding extra virgin olive oil to their diet helped prevent inflammation in the hypothalamus—the region of the brain responsible for regulating hunger and metabolism. The mice that consumed olive oil showed less weight gain and improved metabolic function.

The research team from the University of São Paulo, led by Ariadne Perez, fed the mice a high-fat diet, supplementing some of them with olive oil. After several weeks, the researchers observed reduced inflammation in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus in the mice that consumed olive oil, an area typically affected by obesity. The findings suggest that consuming extra virgin olive oil could be a promising strategy for preventing metabolic disorders linked to obesity.
Extra virgin olive oil is produced by mechanically pressing olives without refining or applying heat, preserving its rich content of polyphenols and vitamin E—powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that support overall health.
