In recent remarks, Katz added that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are "receiving instructions to prepare for broadening operations in Lebanon," signaling a potential military escalation on the northern front.
"If the Lebanese government does not exert control over Hezbollah, we will control the ground and do it ourselves," Katz continued.
In the early hours of March 2, Hezbollah launched several rockets from Lebanon targeting northern Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Khamenei. This development has dragged Lebanon into an open war with Israel, which has since carried out devastating airstrikes across multiple Lebanese cities.
Israel and the United States have been conducting airstrikes against Iran since Saturday, February 28, which resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has retaliated by striking Israel and other regional countries with missiles and drones.
Furthermore, Iran has enforced a naval blockade on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz and has targeted oil tankers attempting to transit the strategic waterway.
