Recent reports also indicated that Israeli forces brought an abducted Lebanese security officer to the Nabi Chit cemeteries in the Bekaa to guide them to the alleged burial site.
Who is Ron Arad?
Ron Arad is an Israeli navigator born in 1958 who went missing in Lebanon in 1986. His disappearance remains one of the most enduring mysteries in Israeli military history.
The Incident: On October 16, 1986, Arad took part in an airstrike near Sidon. A technical malfunction caused a munition to explode near his Phantom jet, forcing him and the pilot, Yishai Aviram, to eject.
The Capture: While Israeli forces managed to rescue Aviram in a daring operation, Arad was captured on the ground.
The Disappearance: According to Israeli accounts, he was initially held by the Amal Movement before being handed over to Amal’s security chief at the time, Mustafa Dirani. Since then, all traces of him have been lost.
Decades of Searching
Over the past 40 years, Israel has conducted numerous intelligence operations and investigations to determine his fate:
In 1994, Israeli commandos abducted Mustafa Dirani from his home in Lebanon to interrogate him regarding Arad, but no conclusive information was reached.
Conflicting Estimates: Some Israeli intelligence assessments suggest Arad may have died as early as the late 1980s, while other reports speculated he remained alive for years. Officially, Israel still classifies his fate as unknown due to the lack of definitive evidence.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority (KAN) quoted sources stating that "The Israeli army conducted operations in Lebanese territory last night specifically to locate the body of Ron Arad."
