Pfizer’s anti-Covid pill ‘could be available by yearend’

AMMAN — US pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, is experimenting on a new Covid treatment that could be ready by the end of 2021.

The oral drug is expected to be effective “at the first sign of illness…,” the company’s CEO Albert Bourla told CNBC on Tuesday.اضافة اعلان

The novel antiviral medicine is “part of a class of medicines called protease inhibitors and works by inhibiting an enzyme that the virus needs to replicate in human cells”.

Health experts cited by CNBC said the drug could be a “game changer because people newly infected with the virus could use it outside of hospitals. Researchers hope the medication will keep the disease from progressing and prevent hospital trips”.
