The browser, set to launch in the coming weeks, is designed to transform the web browsing experience through artificial intelligence. It will allow OpenAI more direct access to one of Google’s key advantages—user data.

Pressure on Google
If a significant portion of OpenAI’s 500 million weekly active ChatGPT users switch to the new browser, it could place substantial pressure on Google’s advertising revenues.

Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly considering using AI technology from either Anthropic or OpenAI to power its virtual assistant, Siri, as part of its effort to revamp its lagging AI capabilities.

Google Chrome remains a cornerstone of Alphabet's advertising business, accounting for nearly three-quarters of the company’s revenue. Chrome collects extensive user data to help Alphabet target ads more effectively and profitably. Its settings also allow Google to direct users to its search engine by default.

Two of the sources stated that the OpenAI browser will include a chat-based interface similar to ChatGPT, allowing users to conduct some interactions within the browser without clicking through to external websites.
