Meta Poaches the Mastermind Behind Apple’s Smart Models with a Stunning Offer
In a striking move reflecting the fierce competition in the artificial intelligence world, a Bloomberg report revealed that Ruming Bang, Apple’s Chief Engineer and Head of the Core AI Models team, has left the company to join Meta’s new “Super Intelligence” division. This marks one of the most significant leadership changes in Apple’s AI department since the launch of the “Apple Intelligence” initiative.اضافة اعلان

Details and Implications of the Departure
Bang was overseeing the development of large language models used to power features such as Genmoji (emoji generation), email summarization, and prioritized notifications on Apple devices. He joined Apple in 2021, coming from Google, leading a team of about 100 engineers. Apple was planning to make these models available to external developers for the first time in June.

According to Bloomberg sources, Meta made Bang a lucrative offer including an annual bonus package worth millions of dollars to attract him to their new unit focused on building advanced AI systems.

Pressures Inside Apple and Meta’s Hiring Campaign
Bang’s departure highlights growing pressures within Apple’s AI models team. Senior management is currently considering partially relying on external models from companies like OpenAI or Anthropic to develop an enhanced version of the voice assistant “Siri,” a direction that has caused frustration among the internal team. The report revealed that several engineers on the team are already contemplating leaving Apple for Meta.

Meta’s move comes amid a broad hiring spree in AI. The company recently recruited notable names such as Alexander Wang (founder of Scale AI), Daniel Gross, Nat Friedman, and Yuanchi Li from OpenAI, in addition to Anton Bakhtin from Anthropic. Bloomberg reports that Meta has been actively recruiting researchers from OpenAI since last month as part of a strategy devised by CEO Mark Zuckerberg to position the company as a leader in the AI systems market after its latest models failed to meet public expectations.

These developments demonstrate the escalating competition among major tech firms to attract talent in artificial intelligence at a time when the race to build advanced models and commercial applications is accelerating rapidly.
