The 26-year-old Swedish forward is enjoying a phenomenal season with Sporting Lisbon, having scored 52 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 matches across all competitions—a performance that has drawn attention from Europe's elite clubs.
According to previous reports from TEAMtalk, Gyökeres has become a prime target for several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea. However, the player is said to have a strong desire to join Real Madrid this summer.
Sources confirm that the prolific striker has formally asked Sporting to facilitate a move during the upcoming transfer window. He is seeking a new challenge and was reportedly promised by the club that they would ease his departure under the right circumstances.
This move from Real Madrid comes in the wake of their Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Arsenal, who eliminated Los Blancos with a crushing 5-1 aggregate win over two legs. The club is now focused on rebuilding and strengthening its squad ahead of next season.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid have entered the bidding war with serious intent, going head-to-head with clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United for Gyökeres’ signature.
Bayern Munich were also reportedly interested in the Swedish striker but withdrew from the race due to Sporting's high asking price.
Signing Gyökeres is expected to cost between €60 million and €70 million, making him a significant investment for whichever club secures the deal.
Despite Real Madrid's late push, Sky reports that Arsenal remain the frontrunners to land the player dubbed “the new Ronaldo” in the upcoming transfer window.
