The film tells the story of a domestic worker named "Marie," who is about to marry her employer in post-World War II Denmark, but stands to lose everything over a heavy, buried secret from the war that resurfaces, according to Agence France-Presse.

Danish actress Mathilde Arcel received the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Marie in "Woman Unknown," Al-Tokhy's third feature film.

Al-Tokhy was one of only two women among the directors competing in the festival's 83rd edition, with her film "Woman Unknown" (Danish title: Kvinde Ukendt) exploring what she has described as the "invisibility of women."
