The Bus Stop is located in the heart of Amman, on Rainbow Street where it operates next to neighboring restaurant, Mijana. The idea came to Izzat Mehyar, the owner, to build a new spot where locals and tourists alike can sit, eat, and take pictures.

The restaurant has a mechanical, retro aesthetic centered on an old red bus turned into a kitchen. The inside of the bus was emptied out in order to turn it into a food station.

The interior of another bus and a firetruck provided by the General Directorate of Jordan Civil Defense are used as dining areas, which feature wheels repurposed as tables.

The entire space is decorated with a nonfunctional gasoline pump, colorful murals, antique lockers, and decorated benches. To complete the retro experience the restaurant play’s music from the 60s and 70s.

The manager of the restaurant, Wissam Sehnawi, said that the aim was to make Bus Stop into an enjoyable attraction for customers to relax and enjoy a breath of fresh air.

“People are looking at new and weird things. It’s a different idea so (people) find it to be interesting. Everyone has been sitting at home so when things opened up, people were excited to go out,” Sehnawi told Jordan News.

He added that the restaurant received a “satisfying number” of customers during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, and that after the curfews and lockdowns, people needed a change of scenery.

Though COVID-19 poses a challenge to the eatery, it continues to serve the usual: burgers, wings, and shawerma, among other classic comfort foods.

“There are certain places that are known for their delivery services. We are always ready to deliver our food, but the beauty of Bus Stop is in the experience,” Sehnawi said.

Two girls were enjoying their pizza at the vehicle-themed restaurant when Jordan News visited.

“It’s our first time here and we love it. It’s a new idea and the food is great,” they told Jordan News.
