“My Heritage, My Identity” Program Highlights the Spatial Dimension of Cultural Heritage in Aqaba
The Aqaba Directorate of Culture, the Aqaba Forum for Cultural and Youth Creativity, in cooperation with the Aqaba Directorate of Antiquities, organized today, Saturday, a field visit to the historic Al-Quwayrah Castle as part of the “My Heritage, My Identity” program, which aims to highlight the spatial dimension of cultural heritage in the governorate.اضافة اعلان

The program seeks to raise youth awareness about the importance of historical and cultural heritage in Aqaba, while emphasizing the historical significance of these sites in the succession of civilizations in the region. It also introduces young people to the pivotal role that Al-Quwayrah and Al-Humeima played in history and their close connection to Jordanian national identity and cultural memory.

Tareq Al-Badour, Director of Culture in Aqaba, stressed the importance of the “My Heritage, My Identity” program as one of the initiatives stemming from the objectives of the Ministry of Culture and the national cultural strategy. He emphasized that such initiatives contribute to instilling values of belonging and enhancing youth awareness of Jordan’s cultural and historical identity, reflecting positively on the national heritage.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Kurdi from the University of Jordan highlighted the historical importance of Al-Quwayrah Castle and its prominent role in the events of the Great Arab Revolt, noting its status as a national symbol and strategic site in the region’s history. He also provided a detailed explanation of the Al-Humeima archaeological site, which bears witness to multiple civilizations and its role in Islamic history, particularly during the rise of the Abbasid state.

Ahmad Al-Majali, President of the Forum, affirmed that these activities align with national efforts to instill the concept of cultural identity among youth and encourage them to engage with their civilizational heritage as a cornerstone for building the future and fostering pride in the governorate’s cultural and historical heritage.
