Remittances by Jordanian expats in Qatar surged to JD440m in 2022

AMMAN — Jordanians working in Qatar sent home a staggering $440 million (JD312 million) in 2022, a 10 percent increase compared to 2021 remittances, according to Qatari officials and directors of exchange and money transfer companies.اضافة اعلان

In interviews with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Tuesday, the officials said that remittances by Jordanian expatriates in 2022 may be the highest in several years. This year’s figures showed an increase of 10 percent from 2021 remittances, which totaled $400 million (JD283.6 million), and a 46.6 percent growth compared to 2020 remittances, which reached $300 million (212.7 million).

A few years ago, Qatar launched an initiative to create 20,000 jobs for Jordanian youth. The first stage, providing about 10,000 jobs in the Qatari workforce for Jordanians, was completed at the end of last year.

According to data recently released by the Central Bank of Jordan, the total value of Jordanian expatriate remittances in the first ten months of 2022 increased by 0.6 percent compared to the same period in 2021 to exceed $2.829 billion (JD2 billion), while in October alone, they increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching $290.4 million (JD205.9 million).
