AMMAN — During the past two months, freight prices and shipping costs in general declined due to global economic conditions, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

It quoted Nabil Al-Khatib, head of the Jordan Logistics Association, as saying that a drop in shipping demand and crude oil price stability contributed to the decline in freight rates.

Shipping costs for containers entering Jordan from Europe and the US largely remained unchanged, he said. But the price of shipping containers from China is continuously fluctuating.

Freight charges for a 6m container from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to the port of Aqaba for the current month is $700, and $3,200 from Montreal, Canada.

Freight charges for a 12m container sent from Jeddah in the same period is $800, and $3,900 from Houston, Texas in the US.

A 20-foot container shipped from China costs $2,500, while the rate goes up to $3,000 for a 40-foot container using the same route.
