Electricity purchased and sold both increased by 5.8% during the past year compared to 2023, according to the recently released annual report of the National Electric Power Company.

According to the report, the amount of electricity purchased reached 22,723 gigawatt-hours last year compared to 21,473 in 2023. This includes a 0.2% increase from traditional generation projects, a 22.8% rise from shale oil/Atarat projects, and a 7.5% increase from renewable energy projects. Meanwhile, other sources such as King Talal Dam and the Jordanian-Indian Chemical Company saw a decrease of 3.5%.
Electricity sold amounted to 22,323 gigawatt-hours in 2024 compared to 21,105 in 2023. The report noted a 5.5% increase for distribution companies, 7.2% for industrial consumers (transformative, extractive, and electrical energy sectors), and 2.8% for other consumers including the airport, radio, television, and others.
The report also stated that imported electricity from Egypt slightly decreased from 266.4 megawatt-hours to 264.0 megawatt-hours, a 0.9% drop. On the other hand, electricity exports rose by 32.6%, from 200.4 to 265.8 megawatt-hours, involving Jerusalem Electricity Company (Jericho), the Iraqi border crossing at Trebil, and the General Electricity Transmission Company of Iraq.
