They stated that the return of such projects, including the reopening of the Crowne Plaza, represents a significant addition to Petra’s tourism infrastructure and helps increase the accommodation sector’s capacity to meet the growing demand for tourist services, especially during peak seasons.

Dr. Fares Al-Brizat, Chairman of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, noted that the reopening of these tourism projects is part of a comprehensive strategy to support the sector in the region. He emphasized that the authority is working to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and prioritize local community members in employment opportunities.

He confirmed that approximately 1,400 hotel rooms will be added to Petra’s existing accommodation facilities this year, providing more job opportunities.

Tourism investor Khalid Al-Twaisi stated that the reopening of tourism projects reflects renewed confidence in Jordan’s tourism sector, noting that the return of major investments, such as the Crowne Plaza, will encourage further investment in the region.

Local youth, like Motaz Al-Musa’ada, highlighted that this step represents a real opportunity for residents to engage in the tourism labor market and achieve job stability.

Tourism economics expert Dr. Zaid Saidat predicted that these projects will help stimulate tourism-related sectors and promote sustainable local development.

Official data from the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority reflect the current positive trend. Visitor numbers this month increased by nearly 70% compared to 2023 and 64% compared to 2024. Hotel occupancy rates rose from 7% in 2024 to 30% by the end of 2025, while the number of tourists doubled from 115,000 in the last quarter of 2024 to 210,000 during the same period in 2025.

These developments coincide with active tourism movement in Petra, alongside ongoing official efforts to diversify and develop the tourism product, enhancing the visitor experience and extending their stay in the area.
