The Income and Sales Tax Department began sending SMS notifications on Sunday to eligible taxpayers for the 2024 tax year, covering approximately 103,000 out of 116,000 taxpayers. The messages informed recipients that 40% of their eligible tax refunds had been transferred to their bank accounts via IBAN numbers.

The notifications included around 96,000 employees and workers, as well as 7,000 individual taxpayers who met the final eligibility criteria, including verification of withheld taxes and the accuracy of their bank account details.
Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Dr. Hussam Abu Ali, stated that the remaining 60% of the refunds would be prioritized during the first months of 2026. He added that the department, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, will work to expedite the disbursement of the remaining amounts to eligible taxpayers.
