Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Moussa stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the interconnection projects also include the link with Jordan, clarifying that it is currently operating in its first phase and has been developed in preparation for the transition to Phase Two.
Moussa added that the Iraq-Gulf interconnection project has reached a 95% completion rate and is currently finalizing operational procedures, with the first phase expected to go live in April at a capacity of 500 MW.
He also pointed out that the electrical interconnection with Turkey will begin operating at the start of the summer peak load, noting that the project is fully completed and has been previously tested.
Furthermore, Moussa emphasized that the national power grid is currently preparing to meet the high demand during the summer. He noted that while the interconnection lines remain unaffected, gas supplies are still approximately 6 million cubic meters below the required levels, which impacts the output of power plants.
He concluded by explaining that the preparation plan is progressing well to achieve full readiness for the summer peak loads, asserting that the Ministry recognizes its responsibility and is striving to ensure power stations operate at high efficiency to keep pace with energy demand during the summer season.
