During a meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Khaled Al-Abyad, and members of the Chamber’s board, Hajj Tawfiq emphasized that the joint chamber should serve as the primary reference for regulatory frameworks linking the private sectors of both countries, promoting economic cooperation in trade, industry, and agriculture.

He noted that the joint economic chamber would act as an institutional platform bringing together representatives of the Jordanian and Egyptian private sectors to establish commercial and investment partnerships, monitor challenges facing businesses, and coordinate with relevant authorities in both countries to overcome them.

Hajj Tawfiq highlighted that Jordanian trade, encompassing 16 chambers across all governorates and 10 commercial and service sectors, represents the legal umbrella for the Kingdom’s commercial and service sector, which includes around 160,000 companies and enterprises. He stressed the importance of coordination between both sides through the chamber.

He added that economic relations between Jordan and Egypt are based on a strong political and popular foundation, urging the use of this momentum to foster new trade and investment partnerships and strengthen cooperation between private sector institutions in both countries.

According to Hajj Tawfiq, Jordan’s exports to Egypt reached JD 94 million from the start of this year until the end of July, compared to JD 369 million in imports from Egypt.

He also stressed the importance of expanding sectoral cooperation, sustaining specialized sectoral meetings held in Amman in coordination with Egyptian export councils, and enhancing communication between companies in both countries to exchange information on trade and investment opportunities and exhibitions.

Ambassador Al-Abyad affirmed that Jordanian–Egyptian relations are solid and enduring and should positively reflect on the level of economic cooperation by encouraging the private sectors in both countries to form real partnerships serving mutual interests. He confirmed the embassy’s commitment to facilitate trade, particularly promoting Jordanian exports to Egypt and addressing obstacles affecting the smooth flow of goods.

The ambassador also highlighted the need to build on the achievements of the Jordan–Egypt economic relations and take practical steps to expand cooperation, proposing the organization of a business forum soon to explore joint opportunities.

The meeting was attended by the Chamber’s third vice president Ouda Allah Al-Qutaitat, and board members Hussein Shreem, Nabil Al-Khatib, Khattab Al-Banna, and Abdullah Al-Adwan.
