The Cabinet, during its session held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, approved the addition of 15 buses operating on the Karak-Zarqa route and another 15 buses on the Karak-Aqaba route to the designated operational support framework. This falls within the scope of the second phase of the Inter-Governorate Public Transport Development Project, aiming to expand regular public transport services for citizens, particularly university students in the three governorates.اضافة اعلان

The decision included tasking the Amman Vision Transport Company with the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and passenger information systems for the project. It also tasked the Comprehensive Multiple Transportation Company with managing and monitoring the project's execution. The newly added buses will be equipped with electronic payment devices and vehicle tracking systems to integrate them into the public transport development project system.

Furthermore, the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA) was instructed to allocate the necessary financial provisions and submit a report by the end of December 2026 regarding the operational performance of these two routes, assessing the achievement of performance indicators against their set targets.

The regular public transport development project represents a significant step forward in providing citizens with fixed-frequency transport services operating on specific schedules, utilizing electronic payment, and featuring on-board surveillance. These attributes offer major advantages to passengers across all routes, thereby reflecting positively on the quality of service.

Since its launch in the middle of last year, the project has demonstrated high efficiency in providing regular public transport services during its first phase. This initial phase involved deploying over 150 buses between the capital, Amman, and major governorates, serving more than 1.6 million passengers and operating 139,000 trips within the first eight months of operation.

Building on the success of the first phase, the operation of the second phase will commence next month to enhance integration and connectivity between governorates. It will span 8 routes utilizing 180 buses to serve citizens, students, and workers by offering direct transport services that save time, effort, and costs compared to other transport modes. The expansion is set to accommodate over 13,500 passengers daily, aiming to improve the connectivity between the capital, Amman, and the governorates of Ma'an, Tafileh, Ajloun, and Karak, while regularly enhancing the links between the governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa, Jerash, Karak, and Aqaba.
