A joint U.S.-Ukrainian statement issued by Washington after the talks in Geneva said that “as a result of the discussions, both sides developed an updated and improved framework for the peace plan.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, leading an American delegation, met with Ukrainian and European officials in Geneva on Sunday as part of efforts to reach an agreement to end the war that began in February 2022 with Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

President Donald Trump has given Ukraine until November 27 to approve his peace plan, after nearly four years of fighting.

However, Kyiv is seeking amendments to the 28-point draft plan, which includes a set of Russian demands such as relinquishing territory, reducing the size of its military, and pledging not to join NATO.

The announcement of an updated framework signaled that meaningful changes had been made.

The joint statement said that “the talks were constructive, focused, and respectful, and reaffirmed the shared commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.”

It added that “the discussions showed tangible progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” stressing that “any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and lead to a sustainable and just peace.”

Both sides pledged to continue working on joint proposals “in the coming days.”

The White House statement noted that Rubio and his team reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to ensuring that Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and future prosperity remain central to the ongoing diplomatic process.
