Washington — US President Donald Trump and his administration are developing a strategy for the Middle East for the period following the end of the war with Iran, Axios reported Friday, citing US officials and people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the plan remains in its early stages and is intended to guide US policy in the Middle East during the final two years of Trump’s term, amid Israel’s scheduled elections on October 27 and the US congressional midterm elections in November.
The strategy is being developed on two levels: at the senior political level within the Trump administration and at the operational level across various government agencies. Trump has held two meetings with senior advisers in recent weeks to discuss the plan and has privately said he is working on “something much bigger” in the Middle East after the war with Iran.
According to Axios, the potential strategy includes establishing a regional alignment among US allies to contain Iran, with Washington serving as the guarantor of the arrangement. It would also involve securing the next phase of Trump’s Gaza plan, reaching a security agreement between Israel and Syria, and implementing the agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
The plan also includes expanding the Abraham Accords and reaching normalization agreements between additional countries and Israel.
The Trump administration hopes that the Israeli government formed after the October 27 elections will be prepared to cooperate in implementing the strategy. US officials, however, emphasized that Trump would push for its implementation regardless of the election outcome, including if the vote results in political deadlock.
According to a source cited by Axios, the idea is to link a broad range of regional issues and determine how to establish a regional alignment after the war. It remains unclear whether all US allies in the region would support and participate in such an arrangement.
