The financial contributions collected in a campaign by a Kuwaiti YouTuber and content creator Hassan Salman, also known as AboFlah, will be shared equally with the UNHCR’s winter aid program, and a food aid network, according to the UNHCR’s media office.

The UNHCR’s media office affirmed that circulated media reports claiming that half of the collected money will go to UNHCR staff wages are incorrect, calling on the public to seek accuracy in sharing information.

Abu Fella and his supporting team, from inside a glass room in front of the Khalifa Tower in Dubai have successfully raised $1 million in aid to more than 100,000 families suffering the harsh winter cold.

The initiative was launched as part of the “the world’s most beautiful winter” campaign, in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum global initiatives, the UNHCR, and the food aid network with the aim of supporting refugees, vulnerable and disadvantaged families in the Arab world and Africa.

The UNHCR and the food aid network purchased basic items like blankets, winter clothing and heaters funded by donors’ contributions, and distributed the items to refugees and displaced people in Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon. The campaign also covers individuals and families in need in Syria and Egypt.

The UNHCR estimates that some 3.8 million refugees and displaced persons in the Arab region, as well as millions in Africa endure the cold temperatures and need sustained assistance to overcome the harsh weather conditions.
