Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin met with Yahya Al-Kasbi, chairman of the Public Services Committee at the Senate, and committee members to review the ministry’s plans and projects to develop Jordan’s transport system across its various modes and sectors.

Qatamin said the ministry is moving forward with the implementation and development of the transport system in line with the Royal Letter of Designation and the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision, with the aim of improving services provided to citizens and enhancing the efficiency and ability of the transport sector to respond to changing and future needs.
He stressed that transport development is a priority, given its vital role and direct link to citizens’ daily lives and economic activity. He said the ministry is pursuing an integrated vision covering land, sea and air transport, while upgrading infrastructure and services and strengthening the institutional and technical capabilities of workers in the sector.
Qatamin noted that continued growth in the Kingdom’s population and the number of visitors requires a transport system capable of meeting rising demand and providing more efficient, organized and safe transportation options. He also highlighted the importance of developing national capabilities and enhancing the expertise of human resources to keep pace with rapid developments in the sector.
The minister briefed the committee on the ministry’s key transport projects and plans, foremost among them the National Railway Network Project, including its phases, components and strategic objectives aimed at strengthening connectivity between different parts of the Kingdom, supporting freight and passenger transport, and enhancing Jordan’s competitiveness as a regional transport and logistics hub.
He also reviewed the current state of public transport and plans to develop it, including completed and planned projects to strengthen the public transport network. These include the regular transport project linking Amman with the governorates, which aims to provide more reliable and efficient services and improve connectivity between the governorates to meet citizens’ needs and facilitate movement across the Kingdom.
Qatamin also highlighted the ministry’s efforts to automate and digitize procedures and services and enhance electronic connectivity between the Land Transport Regulatory Commission and relevant sectors and institutions. The measures are intended to improve operational efficiency, streamline procedures, enhance service quality, and ensure more accurate and integrated information and data to support informed decision-making.
The meeting also addressed efforts to develop the maritime transport sector, strengthen the role of the Jordan Maritime Authority and improve the efficiency of maritime operations, supporting the position of the Port of Aqaba and its role in trade, transport and logistics.
In the air transport sector, Qatamin reviewed plans to develop and rehabilitate airports and enhance their readiness, as well as developments in air traffic management. These include the air surveillance radar project, which has strengthened Jordan’s air traffic management capabilities and increased the capacity of its airspace, allowing it to accommodate more aircraft and ensure more efficient and safer air traffic while supporting Jordan’s position as a regional air connectivity hub.
Qatamin stressed that the ministry views transport as an integrated system and is working to develop its land, maritime and air components in a coordinated manner. This approach aims to achieve greater integration between transport modes, improve service efficiency, support the national economy and strengthen Jordan’s ability to capitalize on its strategic geographic location.
For their part, the chairman and members of the Senate Public Services Committee commended the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to develop the transport system and expressed their satisfaction with the projects, plans and programs presented to address the sector’s needs and improve services for citizens.
Al-Kasbi underscored the importance of transport in supporting economic and social development, stressing the need to continue upgrading Jordan’s transport system, improve services for citizens, and enhance the efficiency of public and logistics transport, while following up on the implementation of priority strategic projects.
He also emphasized the importance of coordination and integration among all entities involved in the transport sector to improve services and enhance operational efficiency.
Committee members stressed the importance of maintaining a participatory approach and coordination between state institutions and the Senate to support development plans and achieve national objectives. They noted that developing the transport sector is a key driver of economic and social development and improved quality of life.
The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing dialogue, coordination and the exchange of views on issues related to the transport sector in the national interest. They also stressed the need to accelerate project implementation and achieve the desired objectives under the Economic and Administrative Modernization programs, while responding to citizens’ aspirations and Jordan’s future needs.
The meeting was attended by Ministry of Transport Secretary-General Fares Abu Diyeh, Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, and a number of ministry advisers and specialists. Senate committee members Nidal Al-Hadid, Khawla Al-Armouti and Farouq Al-Hadidi also attended.
