The Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), Engineer Abeer Al-Zuheir, stated that the organization plays a pivotal role in the newly approved E-Mobility Accreditation Project, which was recently endorsed by the Cabinet. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Jordan Country Office of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

In a statement issued Tuesday, Al-Zuheir emphasized that the JSMO is responsible for developing and publishing national standards in line with best regional and international practices in this vital sector. This effort is aimed at promoting sustainable transport and supporting the green economy. She confirmed that the organization is executing its tasks under the agreement by working to develop technical standards.
She explained that preparing and improving Jordanian standards related to electric vehicle safety, charging systems, and other technical areas will enhance the regulatory and legislative infrastructure in the Kingdom. It will also help unify technical references nationwide, directly supporting the shift toward more sustainable modes of transportation.
Al-Zuheir noted that this initiative aligns with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, which places a strong emphasis on institutional development in the transport and logistics sectors, particularly by improving the standards system and overall quality infrastructure.
She also highlighted the JSMO’s recent efforts in this area, including hosting last week’s meetings of the ISO/TC 204 Technical Committee on Intelligent Transport Systems, in cooperation with Princess Sumaya University for Technology. This demonstrates international trust in Jordan’s capabilities and affirms its status as a key contributor to developing regional and global standards in this dynamic field.
The project includes a series of technical workshops and specialized training courses aimed at building the technical capacity of relevant government bodies. It will also feature the development of a dedicated online platform for disseminating training materials.
The main objectives of the project include:
Enhancing regulatory frameworks in the electric transport sector
Increasing the efficiency of relevant regulatory agencies
Attracting greater investment in EV infrastructure
Boosting consumer confidence by providing reliable standards that comply with international safety benchmarks
