AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) on Monday refuted reports that the annual increase for retirement pensions would total JD7 this year, according to Ammon News.اضافة اعلان

Recent publications by local news outlets had suggested that the 2023 increase for retirement, total permanent disability, and death pensions — estimated at JD7 — would be disbursed in May.

In a press release, the corporation stressed the need to take social security-related information only from the official data that it publishes.

The SSC clarified that the annual increase is announced every year at the beginning of May. “It is still too early to discuss” the matter, it said, as the raise must be calculated using comprehensive numbers and data that “have not yet been determined”.

When a decision is reached on the amount of the annual increase, the corporation “will announce it clearly across its media platforms”, it said.

The increase in pensions is linked to inflation and wage increases. According to the Department of Statistics, the inflation rate for 2022 was 4.2 percent, while wage increases are expected to reach 2.6 percent, which affect the annual increases for retirees, according to Khaberni.

The SSC decided three years ago to calculate the increase for all retirement pensions and divide it equally among retirees.

This increase, which aims to preserve the purchasing power and financial stability of retirees, has been a legal entitlement as stipulated within the Social Security Law since 2010.
