Abdullah Kanaan, secretary-general of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, described Britain's ban on imports from Israeli settlements and its new sanctions on settlers as a model for international diplomacy in support of Palestinian statehood with Jerusalem as its capital.

Kanaan told the Jordan News Agency that the British decision, announced by the foreign secretary in the House of Commons, followed a statement by 12 European countries, most of which have recognised the State of Palestine, reaffirming the two-state solution and rejecting the escalation of settler attacks on Palestinian communities.
The committee treats the move as a departure for British diplomacy, which Kanaan characterised as historically weighted toward Israel, citing Sykes-Picot, the Balfour Declaration and the Mandate. He read the shift as a reflection of wider international frustration with current Israeli government policy.
Kanaan said the British and European positions align with Jordan's, which rests on UN resolutions including Security Council Resolution 2334 of 2016. That resolution affirms that Israeli settlements have no legal validity and that changes Israel makes in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, are null and void.
He argued that resolving the Palestinian question is central to wider international stability, and said Jordanian diplomacy, grounded in the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, remains committed to Palestinian rights.
