AMMAN — The results of the last census show that the population of Jordan increased by 5.3 percent during 2004–2015, reaching 9,531,712 people. Of these, 6.6 million were Jordanians, or about 69 percent, and about 31 percent non-Jordanians, according to a local news outlet.اضافة اعلان

At the end of 2016, the population was around 9.8 million people.

The increase can be attributed to the forced migration into the Kingdom, as a result of the political situation in the region, particularly the influx of thousands of Syrian refugees since the beginning of 2011.

Jordan ranks 92nd among countries in terms of population; it is expected to reach about 12 million people by 2030 and 13.4 million in 2050, according to a population projection for the Kingdom for the period 2015-2050.

Young people (below 15) constitute 34.3 percent, those aged 15-64 years 62 percent, and the elderly (65 years and over) 3.7 percent of the total population in the Kingdom.

The average family size decreased between the 2004 and 2015 censuses by 11 percent, from 5.4 to 4.82 individuals.
