Al-Hadid told Al Mamlaka that fares in Aqaba are expected to be adjusted in the coming period after the syndicate formally contacted the relevant authorities.

He added that all syndicate branches would be open on Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to conduct the necessary meter inspections and fare adjustments before official approval by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization. The branches are located in the central region (Amman and Salt), the northern region (Irbid), and the southern region (Aqaba).

The syndicate had previously announced that taxi meter fares would be adjusted on Monday, with increases ranging between 1 and 2 piastres.

Under the new rates:

Daytime meter starting fare rises from 37 piastres to 39 piastres
Nighttime meter starting fare rises from 38 piastres to 40 piastres
Daytime per-kilometer fare increases from 26 piastres to 28 piastres
Nighttime per-kilometer fare increases from 32 piastres to 33 piastres

Abla Al-Weshah, spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, previously stated to Al Mamlaka that under the 2025 regulations governing passenger transport through smart applications, fares for ride-hailing services must remain 20% higher than standard taxi fares.

She explained that any increase in taxi fares would automatically be reflected in ride-hailing app fares, while maintaining the same pricing differential.

For its part, the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization announced that it had completed its technical and logistical preparations to begin adjusting taxi meters in line with the new fares issued by the Land Transport Regulatory Commission.

Acting Director General Lina Abu Eita said the organization had extended its operations to six days a week instead of five, with daily working hours starting at 8:30 a.m., while taxi reception would continue until 7:30 p.m.

She added that operating hours could be extended further if necessary to facilitate the process for vehicle owners and ensure quick completion.
